I
was born in London, England. A short time later our family of 3 moved to
Arborfield, Saskatchewan. After 4 years we embarked on a 15 year circuitous
route to Victoria, British Columbia. 7 of these 15 years were spent in Sylvan Lake,
Alberta, located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
At the age of 13, I became involved in sketching cartoons and caricatures of family and friends. As these sketches were all done during my French classes at school, English is my first and only language.
By the time we settled in Victoria, B.C. I was committed to painting landscapes and had every intention of perfecting my art to the best of my ability. Then, day-to-day living happened; Mark the artist became husband, father and steady wage earner. Art was put on the back burner, although about once a year I did manage to produce one or two paintings.
After early retirement from firefighting for the City of Victoria Fire Department and much encouragement from my wife Jackie, I have taken out paint and brushes with a fresh commitment to my art. I always attempt and sometimes succeed in learning new skills.
I can usually be found painting in my studio, golfing, walking on the beach, hiking up Mt. Doug or cooking dinner.
